When we started our manufacturing in Japanese park in Ahmedabad, all our raw materials came from Japan but we started import substitution to avoid import shipping delays & tried many paper tapes but almost all of them broke in tension &/or tear. Then we tried Yogi Paper’s brown tape & it performed so well in tension, tear & delicate aluminium fins protection that after that they became our regular supplier for millions of metres of tapes required in our plant with 100 % advance payment for which we had to take approval from Japan but was worth the outstanding product!

We were fed up with many suppliers since their tape broke up in tension/used to tear & then we imported Yogi Paper’s white crepe paper tape & found to be excellent in tension & tear resistance. They share their native town-Pilani with Birlas, but still we have to give them 100% advance even after our Indian HO in Mumbai assured them of payments in case we defaulted !

Yogi paper industries send us samples of economical & high strength brown tapes & they recommended high strength brown tapes after understanding our application. Their high quality tape was excellent & we wished, we could use that but since, our volumes are high, hence we imported a container of economical brown crepe paper tape from them in Malaysia which did not perform as per our expectation. More Free trade agreements between Malaysia & India will allow us to import their recommended high strength brown crepe paper tapes someday.

We supply crepe paper covered flexible copper wire/cable to BHEL- India’s largest engineering company with strict IEC technical compliance. We used Yogi Paper’s 20 sheets of size 300 by 300 mm & BHEL tested & approved it. Since then we bought lakhs of metres of transformer/electrical insulation crepe from them. After few years, again the same testing was done & found to be ok. Consistency in quality is what we look for to sustainably add value to all stakeholders. They even pointed out some serious lacuna in BHEL specifications of crepe paper & I scheduled a talk with Sr. BHEL ENGINEER which he acknowledged but organisational inertia was too much for a change in BHEL specifications! BHEL/PSU’s no advance payment policy & no seed funding for import substitution restricts high tech electrical insulation crepe paper manufacturers from substituting most of the imported crepe paper required in BHEL.
